Audiologists and Otology surgeons at Mater Dei Hospital were presented with the newly upgraded BoneBridge Implant and Samba 2 Processor by Med-el Italy’s Product Manager, Mr Gionata Conni.

Launched 11 years ago, BoneBridge is the first Active Transcutaneous Bone Conduction Implant on the market, offering the best solution to children and adults suffering from bone conduction hearing loss.

Trusted partners for the last 7 years, Prohealth & Med-el offer the most comprehensive, advanced, and comfortable implantable hearing solutions in Malta.

Today, approx. 60 persons in Malta benefit from our cochlear implants and bone conduction hearing systems.

There are different types of hearing loss, and they are treated with different types of hearing solutions:

Bone Conduction Implant – BONEBRIDGE can deliver optimal sound quality for individuals with conductive or mixed hearing loss or single sided deafness. The implant is fully placed under the skin and the externally-worn SAMBA 2 Audio Processor sits comfortably on the head, with its streamlined design which makes it easy to hide under one’s hair.

Cochlear implants are designed for people with severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss. With this type of hearing loss, the hair cells in the inner ear are damaged, and can’t detect sounds properly. A cochlear implant bypasses these damaged hair cells and sends electric signals to the brain, where they are interpreted as sound.

The implant system has two main components – The externally worn audio processor detects sounds and sends them to the internal implant, which is placed just under the skin behind the ear.
