Regular Soap is NOT Recommended

One thing to watch out for when at home is the use of regular soap. This is because it can have high alcohol content and be heavily-fragranced, which in turn leads to your skin being stripped of its essential oils.

Wash your Face with Mineral Water

This one may not be immediately obvious, however it is definitely something to keep in mind. We all tend to wash our faces with water that comes straight out of a tap, be it in the shower or at the bathroom sink. What most of us fail to think of is the fact that tap water contains chemicals such as chlorine and fluoride which will do the opposite of hydrating your skin, so it’s a good idea to wash your face with mineral water every so often.

Exfoliate Regularly

Regular exfoliation is a great way of getting rid of dead skin cells and flakiness. Using exfoliating gloves or a simple facecloth to do so will get rid of the old cells while being gentle to your skin.

Day Moisturiser, Night Moisturiser = Different

Make a clear distinction between your day moisturiser and night moisturiser. A day moisturiser should be lighter and allow your skin room to breathe. Using a lighter moisturiser during the day will help prevent your skin from appearing shiny and feeling oily. Your night moisturiser is usually richer than what you use during the day, allowing for deeper penetration into your skin and thus significantly boosting its hydration.

Drink Plenty of Water

Probably the most obvious hydration tip, although repeated endlessly, is still of vital importance. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to ensure your skin is being nourished in the best way possible from the inside-out.

Up your Fruit and Veg

From a dietary perspective, it’s never a bad idea to increase your fruit and vegetable intake. Additional fibre, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in our diets can never go amiss. Omega 3-rich foods such as salmon, tuna and avocados will also help to keep your skin hydrated from the inside-out.
